A fairly easy day today, but the beginning of our trip to the south. To start with, we follow Route 66. Today only to Springfield (Illinois) via Pontiac and other such famous names.
Arrived in Springfield in time for lunch at Maldener’s restaurant. As they advertise themselves it is one of the oldest restaurant on the Route. The food was OK but I wold not go back there.
Checked at the hotel “State House Inn” to have a rest (still suffering from jet lag) and watch the thunderstorm coming in. Might as well use the time to look for a nice bar & restaurant for the evening.
As a footnote, Springfield was the home of Abraham Lincoln for 24 years and is now is resting place.
In the evening, a short walk to dinner at “Brickhouse”. A typical hamburger joint and sports bar.
Walked back via the Capitol
For a night cap at the hotel bar called ” a bar with no name”.
