Day 5 of the 4th week of confinement in France
Saturday April 11th 2020
Living in Carcassonne
Everyone is eagerly waiting for President Macron TV & Radio intervention on Monday. The Prime Minister did a 2 hours interview yesterday evening. He did mention that that the confinement period would most likely be extended.
Numbers continue to worsen in the United States. The Covid-19 pandemic has now affected over half a million people. On Friday, it killed 2,100 people, the highest death toll since this disease hit the United States.
The situation in France is showing some timid signs of stabilisation. The number of cases in reanimation has again decrease by 62.

Cases in reanimation (France)
Here is an overview dashboard which I shall include in future
►Happy birthday to Susan L.
Pity we cannot come to you for a drink you surely would have offered under different circumstances.
Information: Sacré Fernand
Further to our “Apéritif Virtuel” discussion, I have checked the delivery service I had mentioned. It is called Sacré Fernand and they will collect dishes from restaurants as well as collect your shopping in some supermarkets.
They operate in Carcassonne and as far as I can see here are the restaurants / food stores they deal with. As you can see Sushi Boat, which was how our discussion started, is on the list.
I shall investigate further how it actually works
►Information: Zoom – Important security holes.
Further to our discussion yesterday, here is a short summary of information found on the web from digital experts this morning:
As the number of users continued to grow exponentially, many companies discovered several security holes at the same time. Not only personal user data are sold, some video conferencings were (still are?) actually recorded etc etc. Some large digital companies such as SpaceX, Google and NASA have simply forbidden their employees from using Zoom.
I would not use Zoom
►Information: The Beatles 50 years ago
Should have posted this yesterday.
I remember it as much as the landing on the moon.
The Fab Four’s creative differences and personal animosity had been obvious for more than a year, and John Lennon had already let his bandmates know he was defecting in September 1969. But it took another seven months before Paul McCartney officially announced the breakup of the Beatles on April 10, 1970. He relayed his devastating news in a weird sort of “self-interview,” but the message was plain: the group of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr that had begun playing as the Beatles in 1962 was no more. The band would go on to become the highest-earning musical artists of all times, with 178 million units sold, but in April 1970, that just didn’t matter.
►Information: Waste
There has been some controversy regarding the disposal of waste in the public containers . Some people have apparently been fined (Fake News?). I read this morning that it is allowed but you need to have a Certificate of Exemption. You need to cross the “Essential Shopping” reason.
►Information: Recipe
Recipes, as discussed yesterday evening during our “Virtual Aperitif” for Pepper Sauce (courtesy of Guy) and one for Matzah (courtesy of Samantha) were uploaded earlier on today. Just follow the links. Enjoy…

Thank you for the Birthday wishes JJ, it has been a good one in spite of the circumstances….some people have been very creative and kind. All I wish for today is a little sunshine at some point, even briefly!
Loved the simulator video – David was actually translating even though he didn’t understand the instructor:):):) – “keep the nose up, a little left, little left, good keep it right there…..” Great 1st landing, second………
How did you get the opportunity to do this?
A birthday present. There are a few simulators (Airbus) for the public in Germany. For this one we went to Hamburg which was only a 100 miles from home and made a weekend out of it. I would not mind trying again.
