Day 6 of the 4th week of confinement in France
Monday April 13th 2020
Living in Carcassonne
There are strong speculations that the confinement period will be extended till after May 10th which would mean an additional four weeks. This would be to prevent mass movements during the forthcoming 2 long bank holiday weekends of May 1st and May 8th. We are all waiting eagerly for President Macron’s TV announcement this evening.
This is the 104th day of the year, we are on the 28th day of containment to fight the spread of Covid-19. Today is a holiday, Easter Monday. We celebrate St. Dias. Born in 1040, died in Boulogne-sur-Mer, April 13, 1113. Mother of Godefroy de Bouillon and Baudouin I, the first rulers of the Frankish kingdom of Jerusalem, created during the First Crusade.

►Information: Sir Stirling Moss ✟
For motor sport fans like myself it is sad to hear that Formula One legend Sir Stirling Moss has died at the age of 90. A renowned figure in British sport, with 212 wins from 529 races, Sir Stirling passed away in the early hours of Easter Sunday. Regarded by many as the greatest driver never to take the F1 crown, Sir Stirling finished runner-up on four occasions from 1955-61.

►Information: Weekly market
Closed since March 21st, the traditional market on Place Carnot reopened on Saturday, but there were only four vendors present… and not many more customers. Many vendors did not enough time to prepare themselves. Next Saturday that should change!
►Information: Virtual book club
I am not too sure if a virtual book club is for me but since the suggestion has been made I have started looking into it. I found a web site “How to start a virtual book club” which has some interesting points. If anyone comes up with good ideas, let us know.
On the subject of books, I have just finished, it took me only days, the latest book from Philippe Manoeuvre called Rock. This guy has been in the music business since his teenage years as a critic, interviewer and his a walking encyclopedia in Rock & Roll. Being a year younger than myself, we obviously grew up with the same kind of music. He knows about everyone in the business and the book is about some of the musicians he has met. I really enjoyed it. It is of course in French but I am looking around to see if there is an English version.
Today I need to find a new book to read
On the subject of books, are you aware that the library Mots et Cie et Bulles et Cie (37 rue Clemenceau, Carcassonne) although closed has since April 7th and drive and delivery service. This is where I normally purchase, to the despair of my dear spouse, my comic strips. They are really friendly and will order anything for you. It beats Amazon a 1000 times. Orders are therefore possible, as well as by phone (04 68 47 21 44) and by mail (firstname.lastname@example.org).
I think it is important to support our local businesses
