⚜️ Day 33 ⚜️
I am glad to see a tenth day of decrease of patients in reanimation in Occitanie. The number is now at 240. We also have straight 4 days without additional deaths in the Aude department. The number stays at 41.
Anyway, another confined weekend is upon us and unfortunately the weather is not brilliant and it does not look like it will improve till the end of next week. It might discourage some people to go out. Maybe we can see that as a positive effect.
Apparently our Mayor Gérard Larrat says the city is ready for a massive distribution of masks. I saw yesterday in the townhall online archives an order form signed on April 9th for an amount of €58,000 for the purchase of the said masks.

▶︎ De-confinement
As I implied yesterday, Emmanuel Macron “does not wish to discriminate” against the elderly in the context of the progressive deconfinement announced after 11 May and therefore “will appeal to the individual responsibility” of each person, the Elysée said in a statement on Friday 17 April. The Head of State wished to make this clarification when he saw “the debate on the situation of our elderly rising, after the statements of Professor Jean-François Delfraissy”. The latter had said Wednesday in the Senate that “for people of a certain age, 65 or 70 years, (…) we will continue the confinement”.

Fish and shellfish spared
The last great winter tide took place the week of April 9, and the country’s beaches remain closed. A forced rest for the foreshore and its shellfish population, which will have more time to reproduce. Crabs, abalones, clams, curries, cockles… have thus gained a reprieve until the next high tide in May. Regardless of the date when fishermen will be able to take back their nets and buckets, it should be kept in mind that at least one to two years of respite are necessary to allow the species to multiply sustainably.

Himalayan peaks are visible
Since March 24, India, which has 1.4 billion inhabitants, has been experiencing containment, a decrease in economic activity, but also a drastic reduction in pollution in the country. The peaks of the Himalayas, usually plunged in thick fog, are now visible up to 200 kilometres away. The inhabitants of some northern regions had not seen them for some 30 years.

One month without a school shooting in the U.S.
A Washington Post reporter reported that there were no school shootings in the United States in March, something that had not happened since 2002. Logically, most schools are closed. On the other hand, gun sales have never been so high.
