Day 88 – 1st day of de-confinement phase III

Monday

As planned, the President M. E Macron addressed the nation last evening. For all intents and purposes, even if the virus is still around, confinement / de-confinement is over as of today. EU internal borders are open immediately and the rest will follow on July 1st.

The Spain / France border will open both ways without restrictions on June 21st. The Spain / Portugal border however will not. I saw the announcement from the Spanish Premier last evening.

Another statement from the President in view of the current racial malaise was that France will not accept erasing history. I support this 100%.

I also very much approved (I wrote about this before) that a lesson learned from the Covid-19 crisis is that the government / Paris cannot be the one making all the decisions and that there will be de-centralisation efforts.

I thought the whole speech was very good and quite uplifting. It is refreshing to have such a head of State.

Information, news and tips

► Everything might be back to some sort of normality but it is no reason not to be extra careful. The virus is still circulating and the number of daily new cases is constant. Based on a the previous week average, the last 4 days show the following numbers: 464, 454, 462, 445.

► I do not know if it is a sign but the world’s main financial markets started the week in the red, plummeted in particular by fears of a new wave of the Covid-19 epidemic in China and the United States. The CAC 40 lost 2.53% at the opening.

As soon as I can find the complete transcript of the speech, I shall translate and post
