Day 149 – 62nd day of de-confinement phase III

Another Bank Holiday in France. Most shops and markets are open nevertheless.

August 15th is as a rule a very bad day to travel anywhere as it marks the end of the 1 month holiday many people take starting on July 14th which is another bank holiday.

Paris and the Bouches-du-Rhône are now classified as an active coronavirus circulation zone. This is what the Directorate General for Health (DGS) announced in its daily assessment of Friday 14 August 2020.

If the health authority confirms that viral circulation is intensifying in France as in Europe, it reaffirms that “the fate of the epidemic is in our hands”. And that our preventive actions can “massively slow down the epidemic”.

The numbers to remember from this Friday:
In 24 hours, 18 people died from Covid-19 in France.
Since the beginning of the epidemic, France has had 30,406 deaths related to the disease, including 19,901 in hospitals.
2,669 new cases have been counted since the day before and 608,641 tests have been carried out over a week.
4,828 people are still in hospital, 173 of whom arrived in the last 24 hours. Of these, 20 have been admitted to intensive care, bringing the total number of persons in intensive care to 367.
Four regions (Ile-de-France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Hauts-de-France and Grand Est) account for 71% of patients in intensive care.
Overseas France has 133 hospitalisations, 23 of which are in intensive care.
Since the beginning of the epidemic, 108,956 patients have been admitted to hospital in France, and 83,848 have been cured and returned home.
France has registered 27 new clusters in the territory. A total of 953 epidemic outbreaks have been identified since 9 May 2020, of which 611 have been closed.
Worldwide, Covid-19 has affected more than 20.9 million people in 188 countries and caused the death of 760,461 people.

Made it to the market earlier today. Not too crowded at 9am and 99% of the people are wearing masks as required by local decree since this morning. The local police is out in force and stopping people who are not complying. I have not seen them giving fines though.

Information, news and tips

The Prefect of the Aude makes the wearing of masks compulsory in the markets. An increase in viral circulation at both the national and regional levels is noted by Santé Public France for a few weeks.
In the department of Aude, the recrudescence of calls to emergency numbers for suspicions of COVID and the increase in the rate of positive PCR tests since mid-July 2020 tend to demonstrate that viral circulation has increased compared to the previous period.
In this context and in accordance with the decree of 30 July 2020, the Prefect of the Aude has decided to render compulsory wearing of masks by people over 11 years old in open-air and covered markets, garage sales and flea markets throughout the department.
Indeed, the promiscuity of the people and the traffic conditions on the open-air markets and assimilated manifestations make it impossible to respect barrier measures and the distancing of a meter between two people.
Collective compliance with health measures is essential to enable us to fight effectively against the spread of the virus, however, it is noted, in the Aude as elsewhere, that these rules are less restrictive less observed since the beginning of the summer period.
This is why checks will be carried out in the coming weeks on the most frequented sites.
of the department, focusing in particular on the wearing of masks in places where it is compulsory to the obligation to report events involving more than 10 people, the requirement to be seated in the restaurants and especially bars and cafés, or social distancing in places most frequented where the wearing of a mask is not mandatory.
In the event of non-compliance with these health rules, penalties will be imposed according to the following rules case: fine of 135 euros, closure of the establishment, etc.
