Day 226 overall & 2nd day of the second confinement phase

So, 1st weekend of the 2nd confinement is upon us. I must admit that I am already loosing track of the days. Most annoying for me is the 1km limit which is imposed. I had been enjoying a couple of very nice walks in the region. A drive was needed to get there, first to the “Plaine de Cocalière” and then to the “Massif de la Clape“, but once there, one is in the middle of nowhere, with a lot of fresh air and hardly anyone to be seen. In fact, one could say, very safe and virus free.

Plenty of official announcements during the past couple of days to define what is permissible or not.

Here is the link to the decrees specific to the Aude Departement (In French).

Let me know if you have any questions.

(I’ll translate during the weekend)

✒︎ Winter Tyres

Better late than never. At least 10 years later than north European countries, you will have to equip your car with winter tyres or chains during the winter period in some communes. The obligation will come into force on 1 November 2021. Which vehicles and departments are concerned? Chains, winter tyres, studded or studded tyres, what equipment is compulsory? In application of the Montagne II law of 28 December 2016, the decree was published in the Official Journal on 18 October 2020.

The prefects of the 48 departments located in mountainous areas (Alps, Corsica, Massif Central, Massif Jurassien, Pyrenees, Vosges Massif) will have to draw up a list of communes in which vehicle equipment becomes compulsory during the winter period, i.e. from 1 November to 31 March. This list will be drawn up with and after consultation with the local councillors concerned.

✒︎ For the Magic of Christmas, nothing is decided

The major question remains. What about the 16th edition of Christmas Magic and its sleigh of end-of-year entertainment, traditionally organised in December? Will the municipality install the skating rink, the Ferris wheel? Behind the scenes, the organisers inevitably wonder: “For the moment, nothing is cancelled. For the time being, the mayor, Gérard Larrat, is busy setting up the emergency plan with regard to Covid-19. This is his priority. In a second phase, we will begin a reflection on the Magic of Christmas. We will certainly meet next week to discuss the subject”, explains Pascal Dupont, the director of the cultural centre.

The decision should come quickly.

✒︎ British Prime Minister Boris Johnson plans to impose a new national containment starting next week in view of the resurgence of cases of coronavirus contamination, the Times reported on Friday.

The new restrictions could come into force on Wednesday and last until 1 December.
Boris Johnson will hold a press conference on Monday to announce the new measures, according to the newspaper.
No representative of the firm’s office was available to comment.
