▫️How can we limit the risk of contagion during Christmas dinner?
It’s a fact, Covid has already put a damper on the Christmas atmosphere and it’s a very special Christmas Eve that awaits a large part of the world on December 24th. Here are a few tips to limit the risks and make the most of it.
If we refer to the assessment of the Thanksgiving celebrations which have led the United States into the worst spiral of contaminations and deaths of the pandemic, caution should be exercised as Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner are looming on 24 and 25 December.
Of course, the best way to avoid risks is to spend these festive meals with your family “bubble”, made up solely of the people you live with.
But the restrictions and the second confinement have been eased to allow families, who have suffered through these months of drastic measures and uncertainty, to get together and enjoy some good times with their families. Here are a few tips to make everything go as smoothly as possible.
Six adults maximum
As we know, the government has indicated that the reasonable size would be 6 guests, not including children. However, in this particular case, as the family bubble is being enlarged, a few rules will have to be respected to avoid the risk of contagion.
First of all, it is obvious, but it is better not to be present if you are suffering from the following symptoms: headache or stomach ache, diarrhoea, fever.
Pat elsewhere, a screening test with Covid carried out less than three days before New Year’s Eve, if it reassures, is not a totem of immunity and the barrier gestures must be maintained.
Outdoors, 20 times less risk.
In winter, it is difficult to eat outdoors even though the risks are 20 times lower than indoors. That is why indoors, masks, social distance, frequent hand washing and ventilation are essential. The authorities also recommended “keeping the mask on between meals”.
Physical contact is to be avoided as well as grouping in small spaces (such as the kitchen).
As for the meal, large dishes should be avoided, but rather plates already prepared by the same person should be preferred.
Ventilating enclosed spaces will be one of the keys to a Christmas meal that is as safe as possible, either by constantly leaving a door or window slightly open or by making draughts from time to time.
Flaming discussions to be banned
Those who are allergic to heated discussions will have an excuse to get the most enthusiastic members of their family to calm down this year. Conversations with rising tones (and there should be no shortage of topics by the end of 2020) carry the risk of contagion even if guests keep their masks on to express themselves.
Finally, the shorter the meal, the lower the risk. It is better to take a digestive walk outside rather than prolonging the discussions at the table.

Original Targets for December 15th
The number of new daily cases is simply not going down
As usual the low Monday data is due to the so-called “week-end” and the fact that all the data is reported in time.

The rolling daily average over a week is still on the increase.
