▫️Faced with criticism pointing the finger at France’s slowness compared to its European neighbors, the government decided to accelerate the pace of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign, which officially began on December 27, 2020.
Emmanuel Macron, on the occasion of his wishes, himself acknowledged “an unjustified slowness”. In a series of 12 tweets published on Thursday, December 31, the Minister of Solidarity and Health Olivier Véran wished to reassure the French people by stating that this vaccination campaign would “soon gain momentum”.
▫️Covid-19: When will you be able to be vaccinated? At today’s rate in about 125 years but since things are going to start moving as from Monday (it remains to be seen), we can reasonably hope to be able to get a vaccine in February / March for most of us. How shall we know. Well, it was announced yesterday that as done regarding the flu shots, you will receive a letter from the local health authority (CPAM in Carcassonne) informing you that the vaccine is available for you.
▫️Boris Johnson‘s father claims… French citizenship. A family drama was needed to close the last episode (of the year 2020) of this good old Brexit saga. As the United Kingdom leaves the European Union, to the delight of Boris Johnson, the father of the British Prime Minister is obviously planning to spoil the party for him. Stanley Johnson, writer and former MEP, does not intend to turn his back on the EU, quite the contrary: at 79 years old, he is even taking steps to obtain French citizenship!
▫️ Scotland hopes to “join” the EU as an independent nation
“We are now undergoing a harsh Brexit against our will, at the worst possible time, in the midst of a pandemic and economic recession,” deplored Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon on the website of her pro-independence party, the SNP. She reiterated her determination to hold a new referendum on Scottish independence, after the one her side lost in 2014, when 55 per cent of Scots said “no” to independence.

To get rid of the “Week-End” effect it is worth looking the daily rolling 7 day average which clearly still shows a slow but steady increase in the figures. In fact the increase over the past month is just over 50%.
