Living through a pandemic

in the south of France

340 days in Carcassonne since

1st lockdown in March 2020

▫️ DAILY AND WEEKLY STATISTICS HERE .

▫️ AUDE DEPARTEMENT The incidence rate has dropped by more than 20 points in one week, and the positivity rate is also dropping slightly. But there are now more than 241 cases of variants, according to the weekly announcement from the prefecture.

▫️ VACCINATIONS 550,000 doses of AstraZeneca for general practitioners
With 2.5 million citizens vaccinated (1.1 million of whom received both doses), the disappointment by the rest of the population is there, and it is legitimate. There is simply not enough vaccines made available. However, the long tunnel of vaccination is about to be cleared. First breath of fresh air next Thursday. That’s it, the immunizing vials are arriving at general practitioners / doctors. 550,000 units of AstraZeneca’s product, cheap and easy to store, will be delivered to them on February 25.

Destination the arm of patients between 50 and 64 years old with a risk of developing a severe form of the disease (obesity, hypertension, diabetes …).

It might be worth repeating that in some countries like Germany and France, this vaccine is not recommended for the patients older than 65.

▫️ VACCINE DOSES

I am having some serious difficulties collecting data this morning. Most of my usual official sources have not been updated since Friday, even the one from the Prime Minister’s web page which I think is a very poor show. No reason given. Maybe it is the weekend effect? or the data is not available? It makes me very suspicious…

In any case I have been trying to find out how many vaccine doses have actually been received. The latest data I have been able to verify is up to February 18th (3 days ago). The flux A mentionned relates to the logistic path used. I am actually studying the details and will post about it in the coming days.

▫️ NOSTALGIA

I just realised that I actually owned , not at the same time of course, these 4 car models at some point in my youth. Wish I had kept them.

▫️ MUSIC

ANOTHER ONE IN MY TOP 100

Today marks the 60th anniversary of the first concert by the Beatles in Liverpool. That was of course prior to Ringo’s time. The four Beatles were at the time Paul, John, George and Stuart (Sutcliffe). In any case a few year this song came out and is one of my favorites.

▫️ NEWS FROM ACROSS THE POND

▫️ WEATHER

Quite a strong wind for the next couple of days.

▫️ VENDEE GLOBE

The next 2 boats to arrive in a couple of days are actually retired from the race.

▫️ WALKS

Very pleasant walk yesterday on a cloudy and windy day at the coast. Hardly anyone around but plenty of flora and fauna to be seen. Went afterwards to the “Salins de Gruissan”. It is very unfortuate that the restaurant is closed however the shop is open and we did purchase a few local and typical items.
