A sunburned nose, quantum physics and a hint of Karaoke
Ah, spring. That magical season where you can go from sipping rosĂ© under the sun to huddling inside with a blanket and wondering whether itâs too early to switch the heating back on â all within 48 hours.
The week started off promising: glorious sunshine, blue skies, and the kind of warmth that lures you outside with a book and a false sense of security. I say âfalseâ because I forgot the oldest rule in the solar playbook: the first sunburn of the season always finds your nose. Mine now glows faintly like a tiny lighthouse beacon. Very useful for night reading, less so for photos.
Just when the courtyard was spring-cleaned to sparkling perfection, and the pool looking like a turquoise invitation to idleness, the weather turned moody and soggy. So much for al fresco living.
Not to be defeated, I dove back into my book on Quantum Physics â because what better way to brighten a rainy day than pondering the duality of matter and whether your cat is both alive and annoyed with you at the same time?
On a productive note, I tackled a bureaucratic Everest: I completed my French income tax return the very day the website opened. Honestly, Iâm not saying I expect a medal, but a small statue in my honour wouldn’t go amiss.
We also revived an old tradition by meeting up with S & G for apĂ©ro at CafĂ© Saillant, followed by lunch at Le Verre dâUn. Much laughter was had, much wine was consumed, and I heroically fought off the need for a nap until I got home, where I promptly collapsed into a deep post-bacchanalian slumber. Naturally, this meant I was wide awake at midnight and watched TV until 3 a.m., half queasy, half philosophical. (I think the Quantum Physics book followed me into the night.)
As I write this, the house is in pre-battle mode: we have eight guests arriving for lunch and I hear whispers of⊠karaoke. Not my idea. Not my style. Not my genre. But I shall smile, raise my glass, and possibly mumble along to Dancing Queen if the moment takes me.
All in all, a sun-kissed, rain-drenched, wine-fueled, slightly quantum week.
Hereâs to Week 17. May it be just as confusingly fabulous.
