50 years later, still fitting
(just about)
Some people celebrate milestones with champagne. Others with a trip down memory lane.
Me? I celebrate with a brand-new Villanova University T-shirt delivered by my ever-cheerful postman this morning.
Now, let’s be clear:
This is not just any T-shirt.
This is the second Villanova T-shirt of my life — the first having been proudly worn exactly 50 years ago. Half a century. That’s not fashion nostalgia, that’s practically a vintage comeback.
Why did I buy it? I genuinely have no idea.
It might have been a late-night internet browsing session.
It might have been a wave of nostalgia strong enough to knock over a grown man (and his credit card).
Or maybe it was the simple realization that nothing screams timeless class quite like collegiate cotton.
Admittedly, the T-shirt is a bit more fitted than I remember…
But then again, I was a bit more fitted back then too.
The logo’s the same, the colour is classic, and the fabric is mercifully soft. But what this shirt really carries is memory.
Of youthful ambition.
Of sunny campuses.
Of the brief illusion that life could be contained in a semester schedule.
So here I am, five decades later, rocking the look once again — this time accessorised with aviators, a cap, and slightly more life experience.
Nostalgia may be a mysterious thing, but some urges are worth indulging.
And if wearing this shirt makes me feel even 10% of the 20-year-old I once was, then frankly, it was the best purchase I’ve made all week.
Go Wildcats. Forever.
