Beta version

I took the plunge, this morning I installed on my phone the IOS 17 Beta version for developers.

An unprecedented move for me but there are a couple of new features which are precisely what I need at the moment.

In particular the possibility to link Notes is important as I am still in the process of transferring files and documents according to my new filing logic

So far so good

Incomprehensible numbers

🚀Our own galaxy, the Milky Way, has a diameter of 87,400 light-years.

One light year is approximately 9.461 trillion kilometers. Therefore, to convert 87400 light years to kilometers, you would multiply 87400 by 9.461 trillion.

87400 light years * 9.461 trillion kilometers/light year = 8.26 quintillion kilometers

🪐Recent estimates tell us that there could be as many as two trillion galaxies in the observable Universe.

And we are the only living creatures?

The continuing mission is to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.”

No eMails

For some unknown reason I have stopped receiving emails in my primary email account since 48 hours and I know for sure that some were sent to me.

I suspect my eMail provider is having some issues but until now I cannot find out what. I also suspect that I might have a couple of conflicting anti-spam filter rules which are supposed to discard any suspect mail automatically. I’ll work on that angle for a while and review all my rules.

Green is GO

An important day today, after a longer than usual hibernation, I decided to check if my turtle would start.

And surprise surprise, it took only a couple of strokes of the key to make it roar.

I took it out for a spin around town, filled up and gave it a good rub back home. It was more than filthy but is now shining again. There are a couple of minor jobs to be done which will keep me busy for a little while.

Admin work

I have finally made up my mind where to store which files between the native iNote app on my Apple phone, tablet, laptop and computers as well as Evernote which I use for research and projects and Dropbox which I use mainly as my “Cloud storage” not forgetting iCloud which is the link beween all the afore mentioned apps and accessible if needed via a third party computer.

I have spent hours

indexing, linking, tagging and transfering files + documents

according to my new logic

B for Beach

Mid-week outing

Same area but a beach restaurant which has been taken over recently and needs to be tested.

So far so good, busiest time of the year in the south of France but the beaches are so big that it feels deserted.

Anyway, I had heard about the beach quite a while back.

Woke

I am having problems understanding the meaning of “woke” which appears to be the buzz word these days.

So I asked ChatGPT for a definition with the following result:

The term “woke” is a slang term that originated in African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and has since been adopted by mainstream culture. It refers to being aware and knowledgeable about social and political issues, particularly those related to racial and social justice. Being “woke” implies being conscious of systemic injustices and actively working towards addressing and dismantling them. It is often used to describe individuals who are actively engaged in activism, advocacy, and promoting equality.

Now I have to re-read some of the articles and try to make sense of them all.

Sail away

🙄 Well, well, well… Today turned out to be quite the “quiet” day I had envisioned for myself. Who would have thought that drilling holes and playing acrobat on a ladder to put up a new sail would be the epitome of tranquility?

I mean, seriously, what could be more peaceful than the sound of power tools echoing through the neighborhood and the thrill of risking life and limb on a wobbly ladder? Ah, the serenity I feel as I balance precariously, praying that gravity doesn’t decide to intervene.

Oh, and let’s not forget the joy of drilling holes into my precious walls, creating a symphony of chaos and destruction. 🎶 Who needs peace and quiet when you can have the sweet melody of drilling reverberating in your ears?

But hey, who needs a calm day when you can have the exhilarating adventure of sail installation? The thrill of untangling ropes, battling with the wind, and trying not to fall off the roof is truly unmatched. 😅

So, here’s to all those who dream of a quiet day but end up embracing the excitement of DIY projects that make your heart race and your stress levels skyrocket. May we forever cherish these unexpected moments of chaos and sarcasm.

July 14th

I can’t help but feel a surge of enthusiasm as I recall that unforgettable night. Carcassonne truly knows how to celebrate in style! So, if you ever have the chance to witness this incredible event, don’t hesitate. Immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere, embrace the anticipation, and let the magic of Carcassonne ignite your spirit. Trust me, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss!

Wow, what an incredible experience it would be for anyone disconnected from the world, out of time and space, to come back and witness the vibrant energy of Carcassonne on July 14th! The excitement in the streets of the Bastide from midday, the bustling Place Carnot, and the lively pedestrian street all hinted at the grand event that awaited us in the evening. And let me tell you, it was nothing short of spectacular!

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the breathtaking illumination of the city of Carcassonne. But reaching that moment required a little patience and preparation. As the afternoon drew to a close, a joyful procession of people made their way to the best vantage points, from the banks of the Aude to the Pont Neuf. We all knew that celebrating a revolution and embracing republican ideals was worth every minute of the wait.

And boy, did the wait pay off! At 10:30 pm, the Carcassonne sky burst into a mesmerizing display of fireworks, as if someone had struck a match and set the heavens ablaze. The colors, the patterns, and the sheer magic of the pyrotechnics left us all in awe. It was a moment that reminded us of the power of unity, the strength of our ideals, and the beauty of our city.
