Daily Post – February 27th 2021

Living through a pandemic

in the south of France

346 days in Carcassonne since

1st lockdown in March 2020

▫️ DAILY AND WEEKLY STATISTICS HERE .

▫️ Stable hospitalisations over one week in the Aude region. In the Aude, this Friday, the number of people hospitalised for Covid, down between the 7th and 22nd of February, rose to 158 (i.e. 2 more in 24 hours). But this indicator remains stable over a week, with 157 patients on February 18th.
Of these 157 patients, 10 are being treated in intensive care, a figure that has remained stable since the previous day. This figure continues the downward trend that began a week ago and has returned to the level seen at the beginning of the month.
In the department, 242 deaths due to Covid are to be deplored, 2 more in 24 hours.
A total of 752 people have left hospital since March, including 1 since the day before.

▫️ VACCINATION CENTRES

11 – AUDE

I also look daily in neighbouring departements

31 – HAUTE-GARONNE 34 – HÉRAULT 66 – PYRÉNÉES-ORIENTALES

I thought I was on a winning thing yesterday when I found an available slot in Toulouse for March 18th but I could not complete the booking because there was no slot available for the 2nd injection and both are needed to complete the booking on line. Most frustrating.

I then went late afternoon to the vaccination centre in Carcassoone and as I was hoping, they just had a cancellation which means there was a slot available there and then. But since I am under 75 and despite my doctor’s certificate they would not take me arguing that they were not equipped if I had a allergic reaction due to my pre-condition. Not much point in arguing and they added it would be the same more or less everywhere else apart from hospitals. That is where I shall head off to tomorrow evening.

▫️ IT IS NOT ALWAYS BAD NEWS

According to data unveiled by INSEE, Thursday, February 25, 2021, Occitania is rather successful in terms of research and development. It ranks first among the country’s regions, and integrates the European Top 20.

3.5% of regional GDP

In 2017, companies and administrations in Occitania spent €5.8 billion on research and development. This corresponds to 3.5% of the region’s Gross Domestic Product. This puts the region in the lead in terms of research effort in France, since no other territory requests so many resources for the sector.

✒️ eBay sellers listing ‘rare’ plastic McDonald’s straws for as much as £5,000

Hopeful eBay users are attempting to flog their old plastic McDonald’s straws for thousands of pounds – and one listing even has three bids despite the shocking price tag

McDonald’s fans may remember the switch the fast food giant made to paper straws a few years back.

Well now, those who still have the discontinued straws laying about are selling them on eBay for eye-watering sums of money.

Currently, there are 29 listings on the buy-and-sell site for the “rare” McDonald’s merchandise with some asking for as much as £5,000.

What’s lurking at the back of your cupboards?

▫️ PIC OF THE DAY

Decided yesterday, after 3 months growth, to have my back in crew cut style as well as have a serious trim of the facial hair. So it is all back to normal folks.

▫️ FUN Friday funnies from Paul (Part II)

◻︎ After my husband and I had a huge argument, we ended up not talking to each other for days.
Finally, on the third day, he asked where one of his shirts was.
“Oh,” I said, “So now you’re speaking to me.”
He looked confused,
“What are you talking about?”
“Haven’t you noticed I haven’t spoken to you for three days?” I challenged.
“No,” he said, “I just thought we were getting along.”

◻︎ Q: What has ears but can’t hear?
A: A cornfield.

◻︎ Q: How do you catch a whole school of fish?
A: With bookworms.

◻︎ Q: Why did the pony get sent to his room?
A: He wouldn’t stop horsing around.

◻︎ Q: Why did the doughnut go to the dentist?
A: It needed a chocolate filling.

◻︎ Q: How can you tell if a calendar is popular?
A: It has a lot of dates!

◻︎ Q: Where do mermaids see movies?
A: At the dive-in!

1. 2019: Stay away from negative people. 2020: Stay away from positive people.

2. The world has turned upside down. Old folks are sneaking out of the house & their kids are yelling at them to stay indoors!

3. Does anyone know if we can take showers yet or should we just keep washing our hands?

4. This virus has done what no woman has been able to do. Cancel sports, shut down all bars & keep men at home!.

5. Never in a million years could I have imagined I would go up to a bank teller wearing  a mask & ask for money

◻︎ One Sunday a pastor told his congregation that the church needed some extra money and asked the people to prayerfully consider giving a little extra in the offering plate.
He said that whoever gave the most would be able to pick out three hymns.
After the offering plates were passed, the pastor glanced down and noticed that someone had placed a $100 bill in offering.
He was so excited that he immediately shared his joy with his congregation and said he’d like to personally thank the person who placed the money in the plate.
And there sat our Rosie all the way in the back shyly raised her hand.
The pastor asked her to come to the front.
Slowly she made her way to the pastor. He told her how wonderful it was that she gave so much and in thanksgiving asked her to pick out three hymns. Her eyes brightened as she looked over the congregation, pointed to the three most  handsome men in the building and said, “I’ll take him and him and him!”

◻︎ It’s not called an imaginary friend anymore, it’s called social media.

◻︎ Valentine’s Day Single people call this Independence Day.

◻︎ I might never get over this addiction of referencing The Beach Boys, but wouldn’t it be nice.

◻︎ Some people think there are insects on the moon, they’re Luna tics
