I do it my way

Back in France

Uneventful flight. I do not really enjoy such late departures. The service which normally includes an enjoyable aperitif time followed by a meal is combined into one so that people have a maximum time to rest. That is the theory of course.

I managed my 2 large whisky glasses and a fairly nice dinner. I watched almost 3 films before I could get some sleep. It was not a sound sleep but I did shut my eyes. There was a bit of turbulence here and there but that does not bother me. I would even stay quite on the contrary.

I woke up when passing over Rome

The rest of the flight goes pretty fast. Breakfast is served, I change into warmer clothes and soon after that we touch down in very thick fog before 8am.

The airport is full of people, fortunately we can use our priority passes to jump a bit of the security queues. The electronic EU passport makes it very easy to go through border control. No need to talk to anyone.

It is quite a long way to our next terminal but we have plenty of time i.e more than 4 hours before our next flight. The Air France lounge in Hall 2F is very welcoming.

Going home day

The manager kindly offered us to use room free of charge till 7pm at which time we expect our taxi to turn up to take us to the airport. So we shall be able to enjoy a full day on the beach & pool and by the looks of it, it is going to be a hot one.

In the meantime we are once again the first ones at breakfast.

I already had a walk on the beach and a chat with my Masaï friends.

👉 I have asked for my bill 💵 about an hour ago and they are still working on it. Too many bar slips to count I guess.

👉 Last lunch here at the club which was completely empty of customers like the rest of the resort. On the and because I walk barefoot I really suffered on the extremely hot wooden planks going walking the long pontoon.

👉 Back to the pool after lunch for a most welcome and very long dip in the water. It will be a while before I can do that again. It is soon time to get ready for the return journey but more importantly the last apéritif to say goodbye to everyone and of course pay my bill or should I say the few pages of it.

Taxi arrives on time at 7pm and we cross the island to the airport. Many people, long queues but we depart for Dar En Salaam on time

It is an extremely short hop of less than 20 minutes. We have to stay in the plane for 1,5 hours whilst it is cleaned and new passengers board. The flight to Paris can start shortly after midnight.

Last full day at the resort

Despite a late night but nevertheless a good sleep (thanks to the last couple and double whisky’s 🥃 ) we were first and alone for breakfast.

The ocean 🌊 is very calm this morning

I do not think I shall move too far away from the pool area today.

Changed my mind and went for a long walk around the bay.

It did not rain as announced and expected so an afternoon at the pool was pleasant for our last full day. Time to start packing up. Is there enough space? And have a rest before the scheduled evening activities.

Pongwe Bay Resort

We moved from our room to a little villa on the beach due to the fact there was a small water leak and dripping from the bathroom ceiling. Apparently the water heater tank needs replacing.

It is a hot 🥵 and quiet morning so far. I have not yet seen any of my drinking partners from last night. We managed to solve the world’s problems.

Quite a pleasant aperitif 🍸 in the evening with our Canadian 🇨🇦 new friends. Then followed dinner and after dinner drinks by which time 2 other couples had joined the only fun table in the place.

Pongwe Bay Resort

After last evening’s antics I was expecting my knees to feel a bit sore this morning but it is not the case.

We are once again the first ones up for breakfast by the beach.

And once again the pool is ours

Very light lunch consisting of papaya & avocado salad and a large bottle of water. An hour later it felt insufficient and a plate of chips had to be ordered.

Weird weather today, very cloudy this afternoon but of course still very warm.

When coming back from the beach / pool area, I like to sit on the balcony to catch up with news and emails and watch the world go by.
