Voyage au centre de la France

Murol in the Auvergne region

Our yearly friend’s reunion, commonly known as La Bande 1968, took place this week. We had decided on a pretty much equidistant location for everyone and it fell in the middle of the Massif Central in the town of Murol in the Auvergne region. I am pretty sure fun was had by everyone.

DAY I

We all arrived in the afternoon and took possession of the gîte at 4pm after which time a few set off to do the necessary shopping for the forthcoming dinners.

DAY II

Lunch

DAY III

Cheese, cheese, cheese in St Nectaire

Followed by a walk up to the church

All 📸 will be posted in the ☁️ here

Summer over?

I have not been feeling too well during the past few days and guess what I have tested positive. Four days later I am beginning to feel better. It follows a very similar path as to when I caught it last time in 2022.

I have not gone out and cancelled any meeting I had which is shame. I need to be fit and free of Covid early next week. Till then I shall stay home and take it easy till all symptoms disappear.

Having so much time on my hands I am experimenting further with AI via ChatGPT. I have even downloaded the App which offers a few pleasant prompts and applications.

I have plenty of time to read the news from around the world. There was a very interesting article in the serious German publication “Der Spiegel” entitled “La France – une meilleure Allemagne”

I think that the constant , mainly leftist, moaning mob should try and appreciate what the rest of the world thinks about us.

As far as I am concerned it is positive despite the current difficult times we are going through.

Time for me to go

Day II

On the water

Hired a boat for the day

Early start, picked up the boat at 9am down in the port. After instructions from the owner, we set off at 9.30am.

The aim was the island of Porquerolles about 20 sea miles away, sailed around the island and headed to the island of Port Cros for lunch, and a swim.

Headed back the shortest way to the mainland for another stop and swim before sailing back along the coast to Cavalaire.

A brilliant hot day, followed by a pleasant (not for me as I suddenly did not feel too well) dinner in our favorite restaurant at the port.

Day I

A few days away

The town has changed a lot over the past few decades. Many new buildings, shops and restaurants. The beaches are the same though.

There are a few new houses in the hill where we live but it nevertheless remains the same. There are thousands of holidaymakers in town but no sign of any where we are.

Lovely view first thing in the morning

Beta version

I took the plunge, this morning I installed on my phone the IOS 17 Beta version for developers.

An unprecedented move for me but there are a couple of new features which are precisely what I need at the moment.

In particular the possibility to link Notes is important as I am still in the process of transferring files and documents according to my new filing logic

So far so good

Incomprehensible numbers

🚀Our own galaxy, the Milky Way, has a diameter of 87,400 light-years.

One light year is approximately 9.461 trillion kilometers. Therefore, to convert 87400 light years to kilometers, you would multiply 87400 by 9.461 trillion.

87400 light years * 9.461 trillion kilometers/light year = 8.26 quintillion kilometers

🪐Recent estimates tell us that there could be as many as two trillion galaxies in the observable Universe.

And we are the only living creatures?

The continuing mission is to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.”

No eMails

For some unknown reason I have stopped receiving emails in my primary email account since 48 hours and I know for sure that some were sent to me.

I suspect my eMail provider is having some issues but until now I cannot find out what. I also suspect that I might have a couple of conflicting anti-spam filter rules which are supposed to discard any suspect mail automatically. I’ll work on that angle for a while and review all my rules.
