Have you ever seen the rain

🎶 🎶 🎶

Quite a hail storm for a short while this afternoon. It was very intense but did not last long.

I am glad I was inside though.

It does not look too brilliant tomorrow either

Dax memories

Many moons ago, one summer in the early 70’s three of us spent our holidays at my parent’s place in the South of France.

We decided to rent one these small motorbikes each and we found exactly waht we wanted in the bike shop place des Lyces in St Tropez (the shop is no longer there).

We spend a few days cruising along the coast following each other at speed along the well known sinuous roads. In the evening we went night clubbing in the “Cacabaria in Cavalaire” till early hours of the morning after which, having taken the precaution of carrying sleeping bags on the bike, we ended up on the beach for a kip.

To complete the story, we had driven from Paris in an old Peugeot 203 which my friend Christian and I shared. To complicate matters, we had also bought a sailing boat and namely a Fenneck which we managed to secure on the roof of the car.

We avoided motorways, had a minor breakdown in the middle of the night when a rubber hose broke but we fixed that and made it to the south of France.

Wonderful memories

The Rabbi’s cat

Just obtained the 1st volume out of 9 from the author Joann Sfar.

It is all about A rabbi’s cat learning to speak after he eats a parrot and asking to convert to Judaism.

Fairly witty. I think I shall purchase the other eight.

Ideal read by the pool

Une poire pour ma pomme

I might have overdone it a bit yesterday but it is ever so delicious.

I was not the only one who enjoyed the ritual after lunch “café ☕️ & poire 🍐 ”

In fact I can honestly say I almost managed the recommended daily 5 fruits and vegetables:

◦ Kir à la pêche 🍑

◦ Vin🍷 which is basically grape juice 🍇

◦ Poire William 🍐

Cartoon time

Still working on my comic book and it takes me a long time to transform original pictures.

But time I have, so no problem

Tall ships

This is the time of year again. After a Covid related two years break, the “Escale à Sète” started 2 days ago and I was there sharp and early.

One of the giant ships and namely the 🇷🇺 Russian “Shtandard” was not allowed entry. Quite right too.

It is always quite impressive to see an old ship moored in the canal.

As usual, some beautiful ships to be seen. You can in theory climb aboard them but the queues were very long so I did not bother.

The overall atmosphere is good and jovial

There is entertainment for all ages

It is not all about boats and ships there is a lot about food and drinks.

I’ll be back for sure next year. After all, it is only an hour and a bit away and Sète is an extremely pleasant town…

Duty done

We both went voting this morning. A first for my wife as far as the French Presidential Election is concerned.

Although she has not officially received confirmation of her new nationality from the Interior Ministry, she has received her new voting card (carte électorale).

So for all intents and purposes it would appear she is French 🇫🇷

I better start thinking of organising a party

Irish adventures VII

DRAFT

Driving back to Dublin today. The plan is to get there in time for lunch. There is still plenty of exploring to do. I also want to enjoy a few more pints of Guinness since I shall not be doing any more driving.

The drive was pleasant enough and it took just under 3 hours to reach our hotel in Dublin Dockland. Too early to check in of course but we could deposit our luggage and head off to return the hired car before 2 pm as planned.

It served us well for the 758km driven around

The car hire people being located in China Town, we took the opportunity to have lunch there.

Far too large portions were served so a walk was urgently needed. A nasty shower was avoided by diving in a coffee shop for an espresso.

The walk towards the Temple Bar area resumed.

The question was, which beer?

It is now time to head east along the river to the hotel

We can check in and have a rest

Not feeling like going out this evening so we decide to spend our last night in the hotel bar. The whisky is good, the staff eager and friendly.
